About Me

My photo
I live in the beautiful state of Tennessee. I am a wife and mother of one. This year (2012-2013) I am starting my first year teaching 5th grade Reading and Language Arts. I'm so excited to be fulfilling a lifelong dream! I love to laugh, sing, do makeup and nails and dabble in other 'artsy' things (Mod Podge, Scrapbooking).

Classroom Setup

Here are a few pictures of the way I set up my classroom this year. It's a little different than last year. I think it's a little more functional as well. I really like for things to be in order and in it's proper place. I DON'T LIKE CLUTTER! So, my aim after every day is to get things back in order...this can be difficult some days dealing with elementary students.

I write our daily agenda, objectives, homework and weekly vocabulary on this board.
This is our library nook. The "Rockin' Readers" guitar is where I post student pictures of those that meet their monthly A.R. goal. I paste their faces on a rock star girl or boy. Every month that they reach their goal a gold start is added somewhere on the rock star. The students love it!

Posting this has really helped students remember to head their papers before turning them in. Yay!

I found this on Pinterest. Last year I just had the pockets in a pocket chart with the jobs written on them (not very 'cute', but it worked). This looks more like an actual 'job posting'.

I use this as one of my quick and easy assessments. It works! Students post ideas they learned, things they found interesting, things that they didn't understand, etc.

On the other door is a mirror so that they CAN see that they are special inside and out!

Great idea I found on Pinterest.

I use these folders to store extra daily work, especially for students who might be absent. Students know to go directly to them the day after they return. I used milk crates to store workbooks...easy storage.

Students' birthday. Lunch Count: students choose what they're having for lunch. I also use this as a quick attendance count.

News board.
Class rules, grading scales, calendar. The cart is an old TV cart. I searched and searched for a podium, but couldn't find one for what I was willing to spend. Spray painted it black and viola!

I found these ideas on Pinterest. They were so much fun! With the tree, I have my students add their fingerprints until the tree is full, then I'll start a new one.

First Post!

Hello folks! Let me start off by telling you a little about myself. I am a fifth grade  Reading and Language Arts teacher (I know, I know...) and I just started my second year of teaching. So, I am still a 'little green' (lol). Growing up, my dream was to become a teacher. It took a lot longer than I had hoped, but it happened and I am so thankful that God has given me the opportunity to impact a child's life on a daily basis. I absolutely love my job (challenges, evaluations, Common Core, and all)! This has really been a life changing experience for me and I would change the profession I chose for anything.

So, I decided to start blogging about my journey and experiences as a teacher. You'll read about things that not only happen in the classroom, but in my world in general. Speaking of 'my world'...I am a dedicated Christian who absolutely loves the Lord and everything that goes along with being a light in this world. I love sharing my life with people and trying, in some way, to inspire them to live a life full of Christ, love, peace, forgiveness, and hope.

I am HAPPILY married to my high school sweetheart for 13 years and we have a 5 year old son who started kindergarten this year and we're all so excited. My family means everything to me. I love being a wife and mother to two of the most amazing people in the world. Our greatest adventures are simply when we're spending family time together doing whatever, whether it be playing Frisbee, watching movies, riding our bikes or just taking a Sunday afternoon car ride.

I'm absolutely excited about starting this blog. I hope that this will become a regular thing for me because I love reading other teacher's blogs and I learn so much. I hope that my blog will be helpful to you as well.

Happy blogging and God bless!
